The WBC Emoji

According to the CDC, in the United States, in 2016 alone there were more than 15.5 million primary care office visits secondary to infectious diseases; there are no accurate estimations for the impact of infectious diseases worldwide. There is a long list of known infectious disease pandemics that have worldwide impact, from the Black Plague to most recently the SARS-CoV-2, with no evidence to suggest infectious diseases will be left in the past. It is critical that infectious disease physicians have a way to communicate about infections to their patients and fellow colleagues. Infection control is a critical component of human health and emcompasses all aspects of medicine. A novel method for doctors to advocate for patients of all nationalities and to destigmatize disease would be the introduction of an infectious disease related emoji.
