With the already normalized usage of emoji in digital communication, the kidney emoji can be crucial in helping patients with disabilities, limited health literacy or those with language barriers communicate with providers, by the simple act of pointing to or sending an emoji. Furthermore, this enables nonmedical personnel to discuss the renal system, concepts in health, as well as primary preventions in a simplified way.
